Signed in this AM and started to forward couple of E-mails. Some of my Favorite Contacts are missing from my selection list. They are all still on my Master List.

What gives????? How do I correct????

Thanks;

You can edit your favorite contacts by clicking th contacts link on the left side of the page when viewing your inbox. Check the contact you wish to edit and click on edit contact. There is a box you can check to add it to favorite contacts

I have the same problem that other person had. ONe day I went to send out emails and half of my one screen list was gone. I went to the master contact list and everything is fine. I tried to do what you suggested and nothing happened. What it did do was enter the people I clicked on to re-enter them and it added them it a new email, like I wanted to send them all a message together. I am confused. This happened, when these names left the list right after my toolbar was changed to a side bar. I didn't ask for that it just happened. I am confused. thanx for any help you can give me.

Thanks for the info on this! I emailed customer service yesterday as when I logged in over half my contacts were missing from my favs list on my hotmail email. Yet they were in my messenger list and in my contatct list..just not on my favs list when I wanted to send a new email. I got a response 10 hours later via email stating the problem was being referred to their support group for discussion and someone would get back to me. I was ready to pull out my hair...I decided to do a google search and found this. It is odd that you can get answers from people casually online by doing a simple search before you can get a valid response from Windows Live themselves. Thanks again for posting this!!

It worked for everything except having myself as a contact. It used to be listed in my favorites on the right hand side of the New Mail screen. But as others indicated, it disappeared. I do have it checked along with the other names in the Edit screen to be a favorite. But just that one will not show up.

Newself:

At one time I had my address listed in my favorites drop down list so I could forward Email from another address I had. Somehow I started getting spam that used my own address to bypass my security. So I eliminated. Maybe MSN became aware of the problem and reprogramed so we could not list our own address as a favorite.

I just did a check-the-favorites box and it brought the name back onto my Favorites list. But doing that for all 150-200 of the names on the contact list, and going back and forth from Favorites to Contacts to see who is or isnt on Favorites and then editing the names one at a time sounds like wayyyyy too much time to spend. There should be a way to add multiple names or all names to Favorites without going thru them one at a time. Does anyone have a trick to do that

Also, I read in Hotmail help that if no names on the contact list are marked as Favorites, then all contact names will be in the Favorites pane on the right. But to do that also means going thru every name on Favorites list and de-favoriting them. Again there should be a global way to do that

Any thoughts or suggestions

I have the same problem. I added back one contact which worked but using the same method for another contact I have it didn't work. This whole thing seems so random. I hope it gets fixed soon. Very annoying.

That's just what I had to do. I tried clicking on more than one at a time and it didn't work. Good luck.

I'm having the same problem. It's just my own personal email address that refuses to be added to the favorites list, though it is checked off in the appropriate field in the edit box. A number of other Favorites have been disappearing too, and though I can restore those, something strange is going on! Is there a limit as to how many favorites we can have on our list?

I'm wondering why we can't get a response from the Hotmail tekkies on this. I know it's a free service, but still ... isn't there some more direct way to contact them? They don't seem to be responding here, their FAQ pages don't give an answer, and they don't respond to emails.

I never received a response from them either. I don't think it's Hotmail, I think it's Windows Live. Good luck.

I don't get it. Doesn't anyone from tech support read our messages? Isn't this supposed to be the place where we get answers from them? Weird! Frustrating! I still have to type in my own email address or go to the "everyone" list everytime I want to save information to my hotmail account. Ohhhh well.

March 4th 2008... an update,... I just spent an hour trying to put my name and email address into "favorite contacts" (like it used to be) and it absolutely doesn't work... all the different explanations as to how to do it are useless... very frustrating...

I am so sorry you had to go through that! It's still the same here. I even tried calling myself by a different nickname with my email address and that didn't work either. I am tempted to try the suggestion of uncheckíng all my favorites (supposedly all email addresses will then show up as your list of favorites) but I don't dare try. If anything worse happened, I would have a cow.

I am still surprised that there don't seem to be any real technicians on this "tech support" site, since there is no other customer service place to go. I guess this is why people are signing up for other services, but after a good number of years with my Hotmail address, it's hard to switch, and confuse people

Guess there's no yummy free lunch at Hotmail anymore -- boo hiss Windows Live, for tarnishing a good thing.

I finally found a site to let me send an Email to tech support but the Email was rejected as site was closed down temporarly. i have a one year subscription to Live One Care but that does not appear to help. It is certainly strange that Microsoft will not respond.

HEY, I GOT A REAL ANSWER!

"Thank you for writing to Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support.... you mentioned that the addresses in your Favorite contacts list have been disappearing. You also mentioned that you cannot add your own account in your Favorite contacts list. I understand how inconvenient this can be for you. I am glad to assist you today.

By default, only your Favorite contacts will appear on the right side of the page when composing a message (in Classic version). Please be guided that from Preferred contacts, it is now called Favorite contacts. Only contacts that are marked as "Favorite" will appear in your Favorite contacts when in the Compose page. If you wish to show all your contacts in the Favorite contacts box, you will need to edit each of your contacts and mark them as favorites. Please follow the steps below on how to do this:

1. Click "Contacts."
2. Select a contact you want to add.
3. Click "Edit."
4. Check the box beside "Mark this contact as a favorite."
5. Click "Save."

You can also view all your contacts in your Favorite contacts box without marking them as favorites by clicking "Everyone..." link located below this box.

WHAT THE HECK? WE KNEW ALL THIS. THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM.
BUT WAIT, THEY CUT TO THE CHASE NOW ......

"Moreover, about adding your own account, By design, you cannot add your own e-mail address in your Favorite contacts list. I appreciate your effort in letting us know your concern and mentioning the kind of service that you prefer. We would like to give you the best e-mail experience possible. Your feedback is of great help in our drive to continually improve our products and services."

THEY UNDERSTAND HOW CONVENIENT THIS IS FOR US, BUT "BY DESIGN" WE CAN NO LONGER ADD OUR OWN EMAIL ADDRESSES TO OUR FAVORITE CONTACTS LIST. (some new design apparently, because my favorite contacts list, with my own address included, worked flawlessly for the last three years).

"In the meantime, you may want to create a group contact and add your own account in it, so that when you want to include your own account to the message you will be sending, you can simply click on the group name. Below are the steps on how to do this:

To create a group contact:

1. Sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail Web site with your Windows Live ID.
2. In the left pane, click the "Contacts" button.
3. Click on the "Add to group" button then click "New group."
4. Type in your preferred group name in the "Group name" field then click the "Save" button. Your new contact group typically appears under "All contacts" unless you already have other group contacts in your account.

To add your e-mail address to a contact group:

1. In the left pane of your Windows Live Hotmail account, click the "Contacts" button
2. Select your e-mail address from your contacts list.
3. Click on the "Add to group" menu then select the group you have just created to add your own address.

Note: You should be viewing your account in the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail.

IT'S EASIER TO JUST TYPE IN MY OWN ADDRESS. THE POINT OF HAVING IT ON MY FAVORITES LIST WAS THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO GO TO ANOTHER PAGE TO ACCESS IT.

If you have any additional suggestions for new features that you would like to be added to Windows Live Hotmail, please submit your feedback at:

http://feedback.live.com/eform.aspx?productkey=wlmail&page=wlfeedback_home_form

You are valuable at Windows Live and we look forward to providing you with consistent and effective service. We appreciate your input and involvement in our Windows Live products."

I APOLOGIZE FOR USING CAPS. COULD WE SUGGEST THAT THEY GO BACK TO THE "OLD" DESIGN?

First Timer here...Hello everyone
I'm going thru the same thing all you guys have experienced. The only way I found to successfully email myself was to set up a 2ndary email source, set the 2ndary to forward all emails to my primary hotmail address, and then add that 2ndary email address to my favorites in contacts and use that. That way everything I want to email to myself I can, it just takes a little longer

does this help anyone?
